New Whiteland, Indiana
At last count, New Whiteland, Indiana, a small Midwest town outside of Indianapolis, had just over 4,579 residents. Directly north of its cousin, Whiteland, Indiana, this town is straight up State Road 31 to Indy.
This is one of those down to earth communities that Midwestern America is famous for. The pioneer settler foundation runs deep in these little towns, and is responsible for much of the widespread strength of character and family-centered values exhibited by the vast majority of their inhabitants.
Living in a town such as New Whiteland, one might regularly participate in
such community activities as the Third Annual Food Drive, put on by Johnson County’s Interchurch Food Pantry, which fed almost 20,000 hungry people in 2007 through citizen donations.
Or you might find yourself getting together with your friends to help produce care packages for the local men in the armed forces. Some of the recommended items are pop-tarts, packaged peanut butter and crackers and white socks.
Incorporated in 1954, New Whiteland is a relative newcomer to Indiana. Directly after the town was officially incorporated, the board of trustees convened for their first meeting. The rest, as they say, is history.
This pleasant community, (appropriately part of the Johnson County Pleasant Township), now has a parks department that maintains Proctor Park, Country Gate Park, East Park and West Park, for the benefit of the townspeople.
The New Whiteland Town Hall doubles as an events hall that citizens may arrange to rent for special meetings and other occasions.
